Match Report We had 42 shooters for the match and 2 people shot the Classifier. We normally run a Classifier quarterly, in Jan., April, July and Oct., but the combined IDPA/IPSC Benefit Match was held instead of our regular monthly match. So, we ran a Classifier this month. Congratulations to Scott and James, each moved up in their classes. The weather was really good, only getting slightly warm in the afternoon. Due to the heat, we had been keeping the matches a little more basic (a/k/a faster) so we could get people out before it got really hot, so we decided we'd ease back into more complex scenarios this month. Combine that with a better-than-expected turnout on "opening weekend" and the match ran longer than expected. We had a good number of new shooters and hope they enjoyed themselves and plan to shoot with us in December. Thanks for coming and we appreciate our regular shooters who encouraged them to join us. Although I've scored the match, I haven't looked closely at the score sheets for the new shooters. However, unless this was an unusual match, the new folks probably received a fair number of Procedural Penalties. Don't let this bother you, it happens with most new shooters and is part of the learning process. Plus, I still hold the club record for Procedural Penalties in a single scenario - three!! That wasn't easy; it took some thought and hard work. People who have been shooting with us for a good while have seen an evolution in our philosophy concerning props and target stands. We've gone from heavy wooden props to those made of light weight PVC and Coraplast. Even the PVC target stands have changed from the simple "U" stand that required metal stakes to the free-standing but more complex (to build) PVC stands. We hope to have a new awning built by January to house our props. When completed, we'll be adding additional specialized props to the inventory. We also plan to build 4 or 5 special trailers to store all of props, stands and other range material to aid in setting up and tearing down scenarios. We also are working on some innovative target systems that should make the matches more fun and realistic. I won't go into specifics yet, but Steve Vandermolen has done some great work in this area and Mr. Wizard (a/k/a Randy Allen) has the Skunk Works working overtime on yet another Star Wars approach to target systems. We want to thank our SO's for the match: Steve & Donna Vandermolen, Danny Stowers, Al Liczwek, Dave Rosetty and Garry Newton. We really appreciate you volunteering to run the bays. SHOOTER APPRECIATION & SO AWARD LUNCHEON We want to try something new this year - a combined Shooter Appreciation and SO Award Luncheon at PSC after the December match. We had an SO appreciation dinner one year and had a great time. However, efforts to schedule another one have failed for the last two years, largely due to scheduling problems during the Christmas season. So, we're trying something different this year. If there is enough interest, we'll schedule a short match for December (6 scenarios rather than 10), so we can finish around 11:00 AM. We'll then have a catered lunch at the PSC Blue Building. In addition to honoring our hard-working SO's for the year, we'll also award the "SO Gun" to the lucky winner of the drawing. For those of you who don't know, every match a person serves as an SO earns a ticket for the SO Drawing at the end of the year. This will be our 4th year to give a pistol to a deserving SO. This should be a great opportunity to visit with fellow IDPA shooters, roast a few of our more easily targeted folks (hehehe) and above all, an opportunity for all of us to say thanks to the SO's who make our matches possible. PSC-IDPA will pick up the tab for everyone who wants to come. Please RSVP soon if you would like to come. Just send me an email and I'll get you on the list. Since we have to order the food ahead of time, we won't be able to accommodate any "door registrations." We hope that scheduling this event on a regular match day will help folks attend and show our appreciation to the SO's. It's also a way we at PSC-IDPA can say thanks to our shooters who make all of our efforts worth while. Next month is the final match for the year. Be sure to shoot with us in December and remember, our report is due to Santa by Dec. 15th. Thanks, Chas. |
