Match Report - 2005 Texas State IDPA Championship Match Stats The 2005 Texas State IDPA Championship ("TSIDPAC") is now history and from all of us at PSC-IDPA thanks for coming! We had 155 shooters registered with only five or six no-shows, so it was a busy time for the match staff. As we did last year, the match staff and eight competitors shot the match on Friday with the majority of the competitors shooting on Saturday. We were honored to have shooters from Italy, Austria and Slovenia (along with several different States) with us for the match, once again making it truly an international event. Our foreign friends were made "Honorary Texans" and I hope that means as much to them as it does us! For the second year, the Bun-Stuffers barbecue cooking team served up traditional Texas barbecue and also for the second year, I was too busy to stop and eat. (This is getting mighty old.) Based on the comments we got from shooters, these folks probably do pretty well in competition. Acknowledgments Every year I point out that it's always risky to start thanking people by name, because you are going to leave someone out. Nevertheless, too much work was done by hard-working volunteers not to recognize their contributions. The more people we have helping us, the easier it is to leave someone out, so I apologize up front, if I fail to recognize anyone. Obviously, we appreciate Dale Hunnicutt serving as Match Director for the third year in a row. As always, he did an excellent job and is a great ambassador for IDPA and for the TSIDPAC. As in prior years, Gary Burris was our Range Master and the "printer" for the Match Book. In addition to lending his services to the TSIDPAC, Gary maintains an excellent scenario library on CD and his efforts have made many Match Directors' jobs much easier, including mine for the monthly PSC-IDPA matches. Brian Marino was the Assistant Match Director. One reason the TSIDPAC prize table has always been exceptional is due to the hard work Brian puts in getting donations. I said it last year, but it bears repeating, while others work on obtaining donations, Brian has turned it into an art form! We also want to recognize Tim Fisher and Randy Allen for their efforts in making the 2005 TSIDPAC a success. Tim designed and built all of the scenario props, including the BG jumping from the fire escape. Tim was truly indispensable in getting the match put together. Randy Allen (inventor of the Allen actuator) single-handedly made the computer scoring network work. We used Jane Fleming's excellent scoring software, ForScore, and Randy reconfigured the network, after the failure of one of four computers we used for scoring. The combination of Jane's software and Randy's network skills are the only reason we were able to get the scores out in record time. (More on the software in the following paragraphs.) Marc Gentine again handled all registration issues, trophy orders, and worked in the scoring office. Marc is one of the four founding members of PSC-IDPA (only two remaining) and helps run the monthly PSC-IDPA Matches. Patricia Dittoe was kind enough to "man" the prize table so the rest of us could appreciate our generous sponsors. We also want to recognize the scoring volunteers, Shirley Ryan, Thi Nguyen, Randy Allen and Ed Burdzinski in the scoring office, and Kelly Pait driving the golf cart to collect score sheets and serve as a courtesy shuttle between the bays. Thanks to our volunteers, the scoring went very well. This was the second year we set up the match on Thursday and had both match staff and some competitors shoot on Friday. Tim Fisher, John Martin, Eric Achord, Randy Allen, Dave Eickhoff and Cliff Thompson volunteered to help with setting up the match on Thursday which made our job much easier. All of these folks also worked the match on Saturday. The shooters did a great job of helping us break down the scenarios and clean up the bays. Randy Allen, Eric Achord, Ed Burdzinski and Marc Gentine also stayed after the awards presentation on Saturday for final range clean-up, making it possible for me both to go home much earlier and not have to go back to the range on Sunday. Bless you gentlemen! As always, we really appreciate the efforts of our SO's!! They work in the heat of the match to help everyone have a safe, fun and challenging match. It would be much easier just to pay the entry fee and shoot, so these folks deserve our heart-felt thanks. I'm sure I've left someone out and I truly apologize. ForScore - IDPA Scoring Software We have been part of an extensive beta testing group for Jane Fleming's IDPA scoring software - ForScore. It is hands down the best scoring software one could imagine. If any match director were to sit down and create a wish list of every feature they would like to see in a scoring package, in all likelihood, it's already in ForScore. Jane released the "final" version of ForScore shortly before the TSIDPAC and that's the version we used for the match. However, even if only the beta version had been available, I would not have hesitated to use it; it's that good! This is not the place to do a full product review of ForScore, but that's coming and will be posted on TexasIDPA.com shortly. But some features like the barcode printing/scanning capability and the "compare" feature are just too good not to mention. We will be using the barcode scanner during our regular monthly matches, not only for scoring, but also for match registration. With this feature, it will take only a few minutes to register a fifty shooter match, rather than an hour or more working by hand. I cannot overstress the value of ForScore for any match, especially major matches. Check out the features at BeachBunnySoftware.com PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS!! Once again, we had a great prize table, thanks to the support from our sponsors. MAJOR SPONSORS:
