Match Report

I really don't have a match report this month; I wasn't there. Lest someone think I played hookey to be in the woods on opening weekend of deer season, I was in Waco for a meeting of the Texas State Rifle Association Legislative Committee. So, while you guys were having fun, I was slaving away defending your Second Amendment rights! (How's that for a politian?) Actually, the meeting was Friday night, but it ran so late I had to stay in Waco and return Saturday morning too late to get to the match.

Dale graciously agreed to take my place as Match Director so Marc wouldn't have to pull double duty. I just learned that Dale also stepped in to SO for the match as well. THANKS DALE!!

Back to opening weekend. It appears to have taken somewhat of a toll, as we only had 36 shooters this month. With the beautiful weather we had, only the call of the wild would keep our regulars away from a cool weather match. I hope everyone had a safe and successful hunt.

The match had a "Final Scenario." For those new to the sport, a Final Scenario is run after the regular match is finished and the props are put away. Frankly, it is used to help make sure folks stay to the end of the match to help break down the bays. Any competitor that doesn't have a score sheet for the Final Scenario does not get scored for the match. (There were 5 DNF's for the match.) When we went to the open squad format, we were convinced that it would be faster and more efficient , letting everyone go home earlier. I believe open squadding works, but we have had an on-going problem with large numbers of competitors leaving as soon as they are finished. The goal is to get everyone out quicker and this is not achieved when only a relative handful of shooters help with clean up. We have seriously considered going back to using squads, but it was suggested that the Final Scenario may well take care of the problem, without having to resort to less efficient squadding. There have been a number of people who have helped a great deal with match set up and breaking down the bays, and your help is greatly appreciated.

A few comments from Marc Gentine: Thanks to all who helped so much in setting up, running the match smoothly and tearing the bays down. There were a few that I would like to particularly recognize: Bob Aberson, Gary Burris and Larry Lewellyn. I'm sure there are others that who made outstanding contributions, I just was not in a position to see them. My sincere thanks to all involved.

Next month is the final match for the year. Be sure to shoot with us in December, or Santa is going to hear about it!!
