Match Report

We had forty shooters for the match today, including a number of new shooters. It seems strange to refer to an August day as cool, but it was sure cooler than earlier in the week. The temperature gage on my car read 88 degrees, so we can't really expect much better during the summer.

A REMINDER ABOUT THE IDPA RULE BOOK!! During the summer months, we make concealment optional for obvious reasons. However, don't let this casual practice lead you to believe the IDPA rules are suspended until cooler weather. For example, we need to remember that all mag carriers must be worn behind the center line and only two mags can be on the belt. We ask folks to bring all the loaded mags they have to speed up the match; we just don't want you to wear them all at once! At times I forget to introduce people to one another, forgetting that not everyone I know knows everyone else. (This kind of stuff happens at my age.) Something akin to this has happened to us at PSC-IDPA. We've shot so long looking at familiar faces we forget that those people newer to the sport may not know the rule book cover-to-cover like the rest of us. (Yeah, right!) Believe it or not, there are also a few fellows as old as me who may suffer a "Sometimers" moment and actually forget a rule, or at least part of it. So, to help the new guys and us old farts, we're going to start having a short shooters meeting before each match. We'll touch on the safety rules, answer any questions and remind folks of the more common causes of procedural penalties. The meeting shouldn't last more than five to ten minutes. And you folks who do not qualify as "new guys" or "old farts," you still have to attend. Be kind, your day is coming - unless you irritate us old farts too much.
