FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Squads v. "Open Squads"

Number of SO's will determine whether squads are used during a match.

3/8/07 --

As everyone is aware, we had to cancel the July PSC-IDPA match, because of a lack of SO's to run the match.  We tried to continue with the Classifier, but ultimately it was rained out.  We don't like canceling any match, especially one with a Classifier. It has always been our policy to run a Classifier the following month, if one is rained out, so we will have one in the August match.

We are going to use a new procedure to help prevent the cancellation of future matches due to a lack of SO's.  Starting with the August match, we will use squads if we have fewer than five (5) SO's.  An SO will be assigned to each squad and will "travel" with the squad from bay to bay.  If we have five (5) SO's, then we will have "open squads" (i.e. no squads) as has always been our procedure.  The squad v. no squad decision will be made on Friday night before each match.  We can't wait until Saturday to made the decision, because we need to know whether to put people in squads as they register for the match.

We have had five (5) or six (6) people register for the SO Class to be hosted at PSC on Saturday, August 18, 2007.  This should help our SO situation, but we could use a lot more volunteers!  Our goal is to have enough SO's so that no one has to work for than three (3) or four (4) matches each year.  To do this, we need about twenty (20) available SO's.  If people want to work more matches, then we'll be happy to have the help, we need to give our faithful few some rest.  There is still time to register for the SO Class, so if you are interested in helping IDPA grow, please send Marc an email at Marc@TexasShooting.com and he will get you on the class roster.

As in the past several years, every time an SO works a match, they get one ticket in the year-end drawing for a new pistol.  This drawing is held during the annual SO Appreciation & Award Dinner. This year's winner was Tim Fisher who took home a new Smith & Wesson M&P!  We have bigger plans for this year's event and we hope to be able to include as many of our shooters as would like to attend.

So that's our plan to avoid having to cancel future matches for anything other than weather.  We have two (2) SO's scheduled for the August 25th match, so we need three (3) more to make it possible to work without squads.

Regards,
Chas.
